The curious case of Generative AI

It’s Sunday morning and I am flipping my newspaper lazily. This has been my ritual for ages (yeah you can keep guessing my age now). My favorite pages are editorial section, Mind over matter and technology, not necessarily in that order.

I relish some of the posts/articles written leisurely by renowned writers, pause a bit and bring a cup or two of tea (yes I am tea person, and I don’t wanna filter it!) in between to linger on the thought that generates over an hour or two or sometimes may be in the evening when am winding up the day. These are not fictitious writers, I never met them just like I’ll never meet #chatgpt but I can still relate to them. I am pretty sure the authors/writers still look up their names appearing in these newspapers on a weekly basis! However, what I don’t know and will never know is whether #chatgpt would ever look into the newspaper post production and feel a sense of joy. I know who Open AI’s CEO is, yes the generator of ChatGPT, but he is not writing anything for sure! He probably had written lines of code before to bring a revolution in this nongenerative world where everyone and anyone is frantically racing to hone their skills in #generativeAI , getting the biggest share of the pie.

I don’t have anything against Generative AI however the sheer pleasure of producing something whether it’s text (article, blog) or artwork, that challenges human mind is simply priceless. ChatGPT was also a byproduct of thinking, let’s not forget it! Nothing can beat the pleasure of having a book or an article written over days/years and then publish it to stimulate the minds of people.

#generativeAI is revolutionary in areas where mundane tasks are done repeatedly, and those hours can be better utilized by something more meaningful. It will be super beneficial in medical and forensic fields where technology can be a game changer. What is a little worrisome is the very fact that Generative AI can create anything it is programmed to. Where are the boundaries which will define what is real and what is generated? Do we have the right set of laws to segregate #real from #fake ? Where will be the surprise factor? If all the things are getting generated by prompts, who will #prompt our minds?

Maybe there should be an occasional prompt to tickle our natural #intellect is that also in queue? If media reports can be believed, GPT 5, the next iteration of OpenAI’s language model is expected to be released in December 2023 with advanced language understanding, long-term memory, accurate translations, and more meaningful responses.

Well, technology will keep evolving to outsmart itself, what we mortal beings should do is to validate the source of information presented to us, not trusting everything that floats in the virtual world and keeping our sentiments neutral in this digitized world!
